shadeway.today

Valencia

A walking-route planner that trades a few extra meters for actual shade. Give it two points and a time, and it routes you under trees and buildings instead of straight across the sun — built on real geometry for the whole city, not estimates.

The map, in numbers

49,888
buildings
76,615
trees
7,947 km
of walkable streets

Why bother

Built for Valencia summers

Cuts real sun exposure on the walk, without wandering off — the shaded route is never allowed to stretch past 1.5× the direct one.

Any date, any hour

Not just "now" — plan for a 6pm walk next Tuesday and the route reflects where the sun (and the shade) will actually be.

Search that stays local

Addresses and points of interest resolve from the city's own index — no keystroke-by-keystroke calls out to a third-party service.

Real footprints, real canopies

Every shadow comes from an actual building outline or tree crown pulled from OpenStreetMap — not a blanket assumption about the block.

Why it's free

Charging for shade, or wrapping it in ads, would work against the one thing this app is for. So it stays free, with no account and no tracking, for as long as it exists.
